Depression

You might feel that everything has become hard. Getting up in the morning, going to work, looking after your kids, being with others, moving about, and, most of all – trying to pretend that everything is fine. You may feel like nothing around you matters, nothing is worth the effort, nothing will work out well anyway. You may feel burdened, overwhelmed, down and tired all the time.

You might have heard the myth that depression is not real, that it is simply laziness or sadness. That you should just “get a grip” and “get over it”. Maybe you are saying these things to yourself, too, but find yourself unable to do what you preach. This is because depression is real. It has a genetic component and an organic background, which science is just now beginning to discover. This means that deep or chronic depression needs specialized, comprehensive treatment plan to help you start functioning on a normal level.

I can help you understand what caused your depression and what keeps it going. We can then find ways to combat it all the way to the brighter side. Step by step I can help you lift yourself out of the overburdening feeling you are under at the moment.

I also offer depression prevention coaching, which focuses on developing a lifestyle and coping skills which make you less likely to become clinically depressed or to have a relapse, if you have already experienced depression before. You can read more about it here.

Note: If you are currently in deep depression, where your level of distress is very high and you have persistent suicidal thoughts, you need emergency care. As a private practitioner I cannot offer it, as I cannot guarantee I will always be reachable. If you need to talk to someone now, call your doctor or your local helpline. You can also find some numbers for suicide helplines in English and German languages here.
